For the first time in 71 years: "La Gioconda" at Varna Opera

For the first time in 71 years, the opera "La Gioconda" by Amilcare Ponchielli will be performed in the Opera in Bulgaria's coastal city of Varna. In the lead role the audience will see the exclusive Bulgarian soprano Gabriela Georgieva, who came to Varna for this premiere.

Varna hosts Gabriela Georgieva's Bulgarian debut in "La Gioconda", as the soloist of Sofia Opera played this role in Rijeka years ago. She has to quickly return to this dramatic and complex image due to the disease of the soloist from the Varna ensemble.

"La Gioconda" is also a challenge for the director and stage designer Kuzman Popov, who, despite his rich experience, also sees this performance for the first time.

Costume designer is Asya Stoimenova, conductor of the premiere is Grigor Palikarov. The performance will be tonight on 7^th of August at the Summer Theater in Varna.
