Freight vehicles will pay toll fees for 55% of the roads in the country, Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolai Nankov
Freight vehicles will pay toll fees for 55% of the roads in the country, Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolai Nankov said during the parliamentary control on 23rd of March.
The Minister informed that the toll rates are a process of preparation and an international financial institution is expected to support the work of an interdepartmental group on the matter. It also works on defining the scope of roads in the system.
The two activities are outside the contract with the selected system operator, the minister said. He pointed out that the Bulgarian carriers will calculate the rate increase under the new system in the cost of their service and added that bus transport is expected to have some preferences for tariffs.
The Minister called for a debate on the topic in the National Asembly. He reminded that with the introduction of the toll system there will be additional funds for road repair and construction of new ones and pointed out that currently 50 million BGN on annual basis remain in the country from transiting freight vehicles while in Serbia the amount is 300 million euro for almost the same distance.
