The prospect of Bulgaria adopting the euro continues to cause uncertainty and public concern regarding the standard of living, according to data from a nationally representative survey by "Gallup International Balkan" for the Bulgarian National Television. The data was presented by Yanitsa Petkova in the studio of "The Day Begins" on January 26.
"These results do not show anything new in relation to the euro, although the question is asked differently from the questions we ask in principle. Here, the emphasis is placed on the standard of living," said sociologist Yanitsa Petkova.
The survey shows that 44% of the respondents express concerns about Bulgaria entering the Eurozone. This percentage remains consistent across various demographic indicators.
"Maybe everything that Croatia went through as concerns, raises concerns in our society".
24% feel calm about the adoption, and another 23% are neither sure nor worried.
Petkova emphasized the importance of information campaign in providing clarity to the public.
"An information campaign, belated or not, will always be useful," Yanitsa Petkova said.
"We have some traditional national skepticism about these matters, but it is not without reason. And this caution has quite often served our people well."
The survey was conducted face-to-face between January 11 and 19 with a sample of 807 people, with 1% of the sample equalling about 54,000 people.
The introduction of the euro is a significant topic - one of the priorities of the current government.
