The government has appointed the new concessionaire at Plovdiv Airport (at Bulgaria’s second largest city) following a procedure.
The new airport operator is a consortium between the Chinese company Hainan Group and Plovdiv Airport Invest.
The concession is for 35 years and for that period the concessionaire will invest in the airport nearly 80 million euros. The funds are intended for maintaining and repairing the existing infrastructure and building a new one.
The Chinese company Hainan currently has assets worth 145 billion, operates 14 airlines and has 410,000 employees worldwide.
Annually, the company carries over 100 million passengers. The airport concession procedure started in May 2017 and after appeals rejected by participants was finalised on March 1, 2018.
