GPs from Sofia staged a protest outside the building of the Ministry of Health on 1st of March. Their demands are for less administrative work and more funds. According to them, additional funding can be provided if the consumer fee, which is currently 2,90 BGN, is raised to 5,10 BGN.
Doctors insist that pensioners and chronically ill pay the full amount of the consumer fee, and then social services reimburse the balance to. Currently, they pay one BGN for a visit to a GP, and GPs receive from the state the difference to 2,90 BGN. In order to receive their money, they have to describe the cash receipts after visiting the pensioners.
Doctors want this rule to be dropped because it burdens them administratively and increases the waiting times in front of their offices.
They insist on dropping the requirement to be available on-call around the clock.
