Hackers have stolen over 3 million euro from Bulgarian companies in the past seven months, said Yavor Karolev, the head of department “Transnational organize crime” of Bulgaria’s Chief Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
More than 25 companies had been attacked by hackers. Usually, the hackers would send e-mails with attachments through which they get access to the correspondence and data.
On 18th of October, Yavor Kolev said that in the past two weeks, two of the top 100 companies in Bulgaria had become victims of hacking attacks. In one of the cases, 150,000 euros were stolen and 450,000 were stolen from the other company.
He said that a computer used for internet banking and related correspondence should be isolated and should not be used for other purposes such as browsing in Facebook or downloading movies or music. About 200 000 malicious codes circulate on Facebook every day and infect the computers, he added.
