Bulgarian border police officers detained four illegal migrants at Kulata border crossing (border with Greece), hidden in a lorry with Polish registration, carrying watermelons. The driver was also detained, the Interior Ministry said on 21st of June.
At 17.30 on 20th of June, at Kulata border checkpoint, border police officers selected a lorry for additional check, on the basis of the risk analysis method. The driver was a 51-year-old Polish citizen. The lorry was transporting watermelons from Greece to Poland.
In the course of the inspection, police found men in the cargo area, carrying no ID documents. They said they were from Pakistan.
The driver and the illegal migrants were detained in the police station in the town of Petrich. The District Prosecutor's Office was notified. Pre-trial proceedings under Article 280 of the Criminal Code were initiated against the driver and under Article 279 of the Criminal Code against the migrants for for illegal crossing of the border.
