International hauliers blocked the traffic at Customs House in the South Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on 20th of June as a sign of protest against collection of additional fees.
Vehicles had difficulties accessing the customs house until midday.
The hauliers protested because the customs house does not have an own exit and in order to leave, drivers have to go through a private property, which collects an additional fee of 31 BGN. The transport companies suffer significant losses because they go through the customs house many times every month.
The Union of International Hauliers said that the problem had existed for 15 years. However, no measures have been taken so far. The management of the customs house in Plovdiv has promised to find a solution as soon as possible. An exit will be built within 2 months, allowing vehicles to leave the customs house via Kuklensko shosse street. Thus, they will not have to pass through the private property.
If the new exit is not built, the hauliers threaten new protests.
