Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) and Russian nuclear company TVEL have signed a contract for delivery of Russian nuclear fuel to Bulgaria until 2025 inclusive, the Russian company announced on December 4.
TVEL will provide comprehensive nuclear fuel supplies that include not only the production of the fuel cartridges but also the preceding stages of the production chain - thus the plant does not need to buy enriched uranium and pass it on to the fuel cartridge manufacturer, the company explained.
The two operating units at Kozloduy NPP - Nos. 5 and 6 with VVER-1000 reactors, operate with Russian nuclear fuel produced by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, which is part of the fuel production company TVEL, which is part of Rosatom.
From the end of 2016, a new generation of fuel - ТВСА-12 - has been delivered to the 6th power unit.
