Kulata border crossing is closed for heavy goods vehicles in the direction to Greece

The winter situation is complicated in the south Bulgarian region of Blagoevgrad. On 26th of February, Kulata-Promahon border is closed for heavy goods vehicles due to heavy snowfalls in Greece.

It is not yet clear when the traffic at the border crossing will be restored. Border police reported that the Greek authorities have suspended the passage of heavy goods vehicles weighing over 12 tonnes due to complicated winter conditions.

Cars, however, are not banned from entering Bulgaria. Heavy snowfall in Bulgaria continues. The queue of lorries is about 2 km long.

Some drivers have decided not to wait in the area of the border but to go back and cross the border through Ilinden – Exoxhi checkpoint, which is open to traffic but vehicles are required to have chains.

The pass "Predels " in Bulgaria’s Blagoevgrad region is closed to traffic. The region between Yundola and Velingrad is closed for heavy goods vehicles.

The Ministry of Interior reports that the other border checkpoints at Bulgaria’s border with Greece are open to traffic and operate normally.

Macedonian border authorities temporarily discontinued the two-way passage of heavy goods vehicles via Deve Bair, a border crossing near Gyuehsevo checkpoint. Freight vehuicles traffic is diverted before the zone at the Bulgarian border crossing.

Traffic of heavy goods vehicles is intensive at the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint has about 5 km of lorries waiting at exit. The queue at Lesovo is about 3 km.

Traffic is intensive at the crossing points Danube Bridge - Rousse and Danube Bridge - Vidin. Ferries to Somovit and Svishtov are not operating.
