A large-scale police action began this night on the territory of the Burgas region after the incident in Kiten, where six children were hit by a drunk and drugged driver. 12 mobile teams of the Traffic Police and the Security Police checked the drivers for alcohol and drugs.
After the start of the operation, for a matter of hours, the police detained several violators. A drunk driver was detained at the police station in Primorsko, a town and seaside resort in southeastern Bulgaria. The breathalyzer showed 1.36 milligrams of alcohol. The driver claimed the sample was manipulated.
The police also checked for drivers without driver licenses, stolen cars, or people declared for a nationwide search. When the breathalyzer reports alcohol or drug use, police officers must carry out a thorough review of the vehicle.
Police teams were all night in Tsarevo, Kiten, Primorsko, Sozopol and Burgas. A total of 250 vehicles were stopped for a police check, and after the alcohol and drug testing, rapid police proceedings were initiated against 10 offenders. Active checks will continue until the end of the summer tourist season.
