The specialised court on 23rd of May ruled to remove from office the mayor of Sofia Mladost district Desislava Ivancheva and her deputy. According to the prosecution, Ivancheva handled administrative matters and drafted documents in her capacity of mayor while in custody.
They were handed over to persons with permission to visit, who then sent them to the municipal administration.
She thus exercised her powers from the detention facility, despite being held in custody. In court, Ivancheva said the case against her was a political attack and that there was not enough evidence against her.
The Mayor of Mladost district, Desislava Ivancheva, was arrested in Sofia during an anticorruption operation on 17th of April. She was remanded in custody on charges of receiving bribes in large amounts.
