What consequences the European business will face when the UK leaves the EU is the topic of a discussion held in Sofia on 26th of April and attended by Michel Barnier, EU's chief negotiator for Brexit. The event's organizer Eva Maydell, MEP from GERB / EPP and chair of the European International Movement, was a guest to BNT’s breakfast show “The Day Begins”.
She said that the departure of an EU member state will have an impact on society as a whole, on every citizen, and on the business. At the moment, the estimates are that the losses for the British and the European businesses will total to about 58 billion pounds - a pretty serious figure at first glance, she added. If we look at the details, it turns out that British businesses depend much more on the European economy as part of GDP and will surely suffer greater losses, she explained.
Maydell stressed that it is very important for the EU to maintain partnership relations with the UK after leaving the Union.
It's not political talking, it's a matter of pragmatism ... We have to make sure that we keep the good dialogue and the business to suffer as little as possible ... Until this exit happens, we need predictability - businesses need to prepare, the society need to prepare, the MEP stressed.
