On 23rd of March, meteorologists warn of possible black ice and snowdrifts. Code orange for heavy snow and strong wind has been issued for 9 districts in Bulgaria. Code yellow weather alert was issued for the rest of the districts. Schools in the municipality of Popovo (North-East Bulgaria) have cancelled classes.
More than 1,000 machines are clearing the roads in aeras with snowfall, Road Infrastructure Agency told BNT. No roads have been closed to traffic of cars, but restrictions were introduced for lorries weighing more than 12 tonnes.
State of emergency has been in place for Vidin municipality because of the snow and complicated traffic situation, The roads to several villages in the municipality are still impassable, although the snow clearing equipment has been working since 4am this morning.
Since yesterday, there has been no electricity in the pumping station, which provides drinking water for the city of Vidin and 22 more settlements in the area. The water supply is from a back-up pumping station.
