military divers first time descended into sea artificial helium oxygen breathing mixtures

Bulgarian military divers for the first time conducted independent descents to a depth of 72 meters, in real sea conditions, using artificial helium-oxygen breathing mixtures.

The descent is part of the process of validating new decompression tables - the schemes by which the diving and surfacing takes place, so that the divers do not have health problems.

The divers' voyage with the “Proteo” rescue ship is an important part of the project to increase the Navy's combat capability for underwater operations. In addition to divers from an auxiliary ships division, divers from the mine countermeasures ships division and the naval helicopter airbase also participate in the descents.

Divers from the Naval Diver and Shipboard Rescue Training Center and doctors from the Military Medical Academy are involved in providing the descents. The descents in real sea conditions were preceded by numerous deep-sea descents in simulated hyperbaric conditions, in the barocam of the rescue ship "Proteo", including to the limiting depth of 100 metres.
