With cold weather, heavy snowfall and high winds, more than 8,000 homes in Western Bulgaria remained without electricity on 26th of February.
At places, it has not stop snowing for hours. Most roads across the area are covered with ice.
The bad weather has caused traffic disruptions, travel delays and accidents.
Schools in many districts have cancelled classes.
During the night, the snowfall is expected to wind down, but the intense snowfall in Eastern Bulgaria will continue. On the 27th of February, temperatures are forecast to drop to -12 and -15 degrees per Celsius.
Despite the difficult winter situation, the national road network is passable in winter conditions. Road infrastructure agency said and advised motorists to drive safely, to comply with introduced road traffic restrictions and not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
