MP Kristian Vigenin: EU - Western Balkans Summit was Successful

It is true that for the first time in 15 years there has been a similar meeting, but I made an effort to compare the 2003 declaration from Thessaloniki and the one which was accepted in Sofia. Te declaration from 2003 is far more promising, positive, talking about European integration. This is what the MP from the opposition osiclaist party, BSP for Bulgaria, and chair of the Committee on European Affairs and Control of the European Funds in the Bulgarian Pareliment commented on 22^nd of May as a guest in the BNT breakfast show.

According to Vigenin, the message from Sofia is much more moderate. As a matter of fact, we have to say that the EU has changed a lot, he added.

Vigenin stressed that efforts should continue, and then - a more active work with Austria is needed, he said, who has already stated a commitment to continue working on these topics.

In purely political aspect, I think, that less has been achieved, Vigenin commented on the EU-Western Balkans summit. "As if there was no long-term political commitment, it worries me," he added.

However, we must say that this was a successful meeting, it achieved what was possible at the moment. We cannot blame the Bulgarian government for not reaching the maximum - as we hoped at the end of last year, defining our priorities, but without doubt this meeting and commitment to the Western Balkans is one of Bulgaria's contributions to be remembered.

To make sure this will happen, our commitment must continue, he stressed again.
