Bids for a detailed conceptual design for the construction of the section are due by November 16
A new road will link Svishtov with the future Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorway, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) has announced. A public procurement procedure has been launched to select a contractor to prepare an expanded preliminary design, including comprehensive engineering and geological surveys. The estimated value of the contract is €600,000, excluding VAT. The deadline for submitting bids is 16 November.
The aim of the contract is to improve Svishtov’s transport links to major routes, including the Hemus motorway and the future Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorway, by building a new road. The route is a key element in the development of Bulgaria’s national and European transport networks.
The project is also directly linked to the Svishtov–Zimnicea ferry route and the Danube Industrial Technology Park in Svishtov, which is becoming a major driver of economic growth and investment at both municipal and regional level.
The new road will pass through the districts of Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse. Two route options have been developed for the project.
Option 1 is approximately 25 kilometres long, while Option 2 is around 33 kilometres.
The design work will be carried out in three intermediate stages over a total of 430 calendar days: 200 days for each of the first two stages and 30 days for the third.
The construction of a new road linking Svishtov with the future Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorway is a joint initiative of the RIA and Svishtov Municipality.
In April 2025, the proposal was submitted for funding to the Managing Authority of the Interreg VI-A Romania–Bulgaria 2021–2027 programme, under Priority 4, “Integrated Region”. The project may receive funding if financial resources become available.
