New rules for entering the territory of Bulgaria are in effect as of today, July 1. The countries will be divided into three zones - red, orange and green. At the same time, the so-called Covid certificate also comes into force.

At Sofia Airport, the verification of the European digital certificate is quick, according to passengers.

The certificate indicates whether the traveller has been vaccinated or recovered after having been ill with Covid-19. All border crossings in our country should be equipped with devices - tablets for reading the QR code.

Yesterday it turned out that in many places they have not yet been delivered. The software should have been installed only last night. The instructions for use are read today by the employees of the Regional Health Inspectorates.

It is not clear what caused this delay in preparation. If the tablet cannot be used, the staff will check the certificate data manually. Additional people will be appointed to help with health control. The recruitment for these people starts today.

New rules to enter the country comes into force today. Zones are introduced depending on the number of infected and positive cases in the respective country.

Bulgaria’s caretaker Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov issued an order setting out the criteria for colour-coding countries according to their Covid-19 situation.

In the green zone the regime is the easiest. The orange is a little stricter. People with certificates will also be tested at random. Those coming from the red zone will not be allowed in the country at all. The information will be updated once a week, in accordance with the data provided by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. However, if there is a sharp deterioration in the epidemic situation in a country, it will happen faster.

A country will be classified as a green zone, if at the time of the assessment the 14-day morbidity rate should be lower than 75 per 100,000 population and the weekly positivity of the laboratory tests performed is higher or equal to 4%; or, if at the time of assessment the 14-day incidence per 100 000 population is between 75 and 200 per 100,000 population and the weekly positivity of the laboratory tests performed is less than 4%.

A country will be classified as an orange zone if at the time of assessment the 14-day incidence per 100 000 population is between 75 and 200 per 100,000 population and the weekly positivity of the laboratory tests performed is higher or equal to 4%; or if at the time of assessment the 14-day incidence per 100 000 population is between 200 and 500 per 100,000 population.

A country will be classified as a red zone if at the time of assessment the 14-day incidence per 100,000 population is higher than or equal to 500 per 100,000 population; or if there is a lack of sufficient or reliable information about the Covid-19 situation, or if a variant is spreading to the level of being classified as a concern.
