Over 40 Bessarabian Bulgarians will be evacuated from Moldova

"We continue to evacuate Bulgarians as well as foreign citizens from Ukraine. So far, about 1,000 Bulgarian citizens have been evacuated from the territory of Ukraine, by buses and trains," Bulgarian Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska said at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry on March 7.

According to her, it is obvious that this situation will not end soon. Minister Teodora Genchovska added that there are many willing Bessarabian Bulgarians to come to Bulgaria, and there are regular bus services organised for them.

"We are planning a visit to Moldova. The Bulgarian Embassy and Consulate General in Kyiv is one of the last to be evacuated, there are no words to describe the assessment of the Bulgarian diplomatic service. More than 170 thousand BGN are the expenses of the Foreign Ministry so far, we will make a proposal to the Council of Ministers to reimburse the amount, but we expect it to continue to increase," added Teodora Genchovska.

In her words, this includes expenses from Ukraine and from Moldova to the Bulgarian border.

"There are currently over 40 Bulgarians in Chisinau who wish to be evacuated, we will use the opportunity of being there to put them on the government plane and evacuate them," Minister Genchovska stressed.

It has been a very difficult journey, people are recovering, we have temporarily suspended work, we have taken down the flags, we have caught the last train, as they say," added our Ambassador to Ukraine, Kostadin Kodzhabashev.

There is a strict curfew in Kyiv, you can only go out for 2 - 3 hours during the day.

Regarding the fact that Russia included Bulgaria in the list of unfriendly countries and what the consequences will be, Minister Teodora Genchovska said that this is to be discussed at the level of the Council of Ministers, and Prime Minister Kiril Petkov is aware of it.
