Paragliding lovers get together in Bulgaria’s Rila Mountain

Dozens of tourists from all over Europe arrive in the village of Bistritsa, Dupnitsa region, to practice paragliding. The small village is situated at the foot of the Rila Mountain, South West of Bulgaria, and provides excellent conditions for flying. A local club has initiated to create the necessary conditions so that more and more lovers of extreme sports come to the village and help the local economy.

The work to build the airfield in the Ostrogan area over the village of Bistritsa began two months ago. The idea, however, was born a few years ago. And all with one goal - more people to visit the town of Dupnitsa and the small settlements around it.

Paragliding lovers prefer the place because of the easy access to the take-off site, as there is an off-road to it. So far, however, most visitors are foreigners.

Petyo Kyurkchiiski, President of “Free Flight” AeroClub: At the moment, there are people from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy. They are attracted by the beauty and variety of nature in Rila Mountain.

Paragliding is a relatively young sport that is still gaining popularity in Bulgaria. For an enjoyable and successful flight, it is most important to go through proper instructions by qualified professional.

To promote their sport and their idea, paragliders from the village of Bistritsa will organise a flying festival in Dupnitsa next month.
