MPs on 18th of July rejected the demand of the parliamentary group of the opposition (BSP for Bulgaria) for cancellation of the concession for Sofia airport. The Bulgarian Socialist Party on 5th of July filed in parliament a proposal to cancel a tender for awarding a 35-year concession contract for the operation of Sofia International Airport.
The opposition’s proposal was backed by only 59 MPs, 95 voted against.
BSP and Volya party voted in favour of the proposal for suspension of the concession. The coalition partners GERB and United Patriots, as well as MRF voted against and abstained, effectively supporting the concession of the metropolitan airport.
Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski urged the political forces to support the concession for Sofia Airport.
He pointed out that with this GERB fulfills its pre-election programme. In his words, the BSP denies a normal European practice for airport infrastructure management.
