Permanent protest: nurses put up a tent outside Parliament

The protest of the nurses becomes permanent. In the morning on September 12, they put up a tent in the garden next to the building of Parliament and vowed to stay there until their demands for decent pay, better working conditions and health care reforms were met.

They were greeted the MPs with leaflets that outlined problems in the healthcare system.

Nurse: Do you have any idea that we are discriminated and that our night work is paid BGN 0.25 per hour?

Toma Bikov, MP from GERB: I know it is not paid well enough.

Philip Popov, MP from BSP for Bulgaria: We support your just demands.

The protesting nurses again demanded decent pay, better working conditions and health care reforms. According to them, the funds that were earlier allocated to increase wages after previous protest did not go to the intended purpose.

Maya Ilieva, organiser of the protest: In our opinion, this should be regulated by law, be a priority of the state, and we should be returned to our employers and depend on their grace.

The nurses' tent will remain in the next days near the building of Parliament. This afternoon they were invited to a meeting with the chairman of the Committee on interaction with NGOs.
