The choice of the Western Balkans as a priority topic of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU is a success for the country. This was reported at the plenary meeting of the EU Affairs Committees in the National Palace of Culture in sofia on 18th of June. Bulgaria’s Parliament speaker Tsveta Karyancheva opened the meeting. President Rumen Radev also addressed the participants.
At тhe forum it was noted that the Bulgarian presidency takes place in a complex environment with many challenges such as migration, security, terrorism, Brexit. It was pointed out that the Bulgarian Presidency managed to move forward many of the important topics related to the European Union's agenda. It was highlighted that the priority theme for the Bulgarian presidency - the Western Balkans - is a very successful decision.
The participants in the forum also discuss the development of cohesion policy after 2020, the social policy of Europe and, of course, the European integration of the Western Balkan countries.
