PM Borissov: European Council accepted everything Bulgaria proposed on migration

Everything we have proposed from Bulgaria on the subject of migration, was accepted by my counterparts at the European Council. This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told journalists in Brussels, the press office of the Council of Ministers said on 29^th of June.

He pointed out that more resources would be allocated for the protection of the external borders.

"The deal with Turkey works. We will also work with the countries of Africa to sign similar agreements,"the prime minister added. Borisov also stressed that the possibility of building safety zones outside Europe was also discussed. He also emphasized that EU migrant centres should be voluntary and that Bulgaria does not need such.

Prime Minister Borissov also welcomed the Council's decision to start pre-accession talks in 2019 with Albania and the Republic of Macedonia. He also said that all voted unanimously on extending the sanctions for Russia.

The Prime Minister stressed that Bulgaria has received the leaders' recognition for the rotating presidency and clarified that it ended with agreed new € 2 billion more in the new financial framework. Borissov also pointed out that yesterday Bulgaria's foreign debt fell from 25% to 24% of GDP.

According the Bulgarian prime minister, Bulgaria’s acceptance in the banking union and the so-called eurozone waiting room should happen on the same day.

"We're ready for the banking union, but on the same day with signing for entry in the waiting room. We should have the relevant monitoring, but we also should have a firm date. These are the rules," the Prime Minister said.
