New natural gas sources for Bulgaria and the region of Southeast Europe were the focus of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov's talks with the United States ambassador to Greece at the Fourth Summit in Thessaloniki. Speaking to the participants in the forum, Borissov expressed his concern about division in North Macedonia on the European Union topic.
The Bulgarian PM highlighted the progress made in building the Greece-Bulgaria gas connection, which is of strategic importance for ensuring energy security in the region. He also emphasized the deliveries of liquefied natural gas from the beginning of 2019 to the Bulgarian market, some of which originate in the USA.
Boyko Borissov and Jeffrey Piatt also discussed Bulgaria's participation as a shareholder in the project for the construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal near Alexandroupolis, Greece.
They also praised Bulgaria-US cooperation in security and defence as partners in NATO.
Earlier in his speech to the forum, Prime Minister Borissov stressed that the Balkans have a great future and the prospects are business, tourism and energy. He also expressed his concern about the division in North Macedonia on the subject of the European Union and the atitudes towards the signing of the Prespa Agreement.
The PM also stressed that the efforts of North Macedonia and Albania towards Euro-accession should be huge and clear and added that he would continue to help his ccounterpart Zaev in this direction.
