Within one year, Bulgaria could apply for the Eurozone, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at at a forum in Sofia, organized by PES Chairman Sergey Stanishev and EPP MEP Eva Maydell on 26th of April. Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov commented that Bulgaria fulfills all the criteria, but eurozone membership itself is not a panacea. It is not necessary to create irrational expectations, both negatively and positively, Goranov said.
Roadmap with the deadlines and criteria for Bulgaria’s membership in the Eurozone will be ready by month, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told the forum.
Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov commented that it is a myth that prices will skyrocket in the transition from the BGN to the euro. He noted that entry into the euro zone will increase the capacity of the Bulgarian state and the Bulgarian National Bank to participate more actively in monetary policy.
The organizers of the forum, Sergey Stanishev and Eva Maydell, also highlighted the benefits of taking part in the decision making process for monetary policy.
