"I am currently under quarantine, otherwise I would have gone to the square and speak with the protesting people." Thus, the Prime Minister Kiril Petkov commented for BNT on the tension during the "Vazrazhdane" party protest, held on January 12.

"I have been involved in many protests and I know that this is the way for people to express their opinion. I respect the form of protest as a form of expressing public opinion, but it always hurts when you see people who have suffered - protesters, and from the police. This is a pity " said the Prime Minister.

He called not to be divided into different groups. And when it comes to the life and health of Bulgarians, to unite and talk together, the Prime Minister called.

"On Friday, when my quarantine is over, I will receive people nominated by the protest who are experts. This conversation should not be based on personal opinions, it should be held by experts who have a real idea of how they can improve the anti-epidemic measures".

Until late at night, specialists worked on a new model of Covid-19 crisis management, based on one main factor - the percentage of intensive care beds occupied. If we do not have them available, we risk people's lives, Petkov added.

"We will manage the next Covid wave based on what percentage of people have been admitted in intensive care and this will determine what measures we will take. Only in the fourth phase - where 80% of the beds are occupied, will we take really strict measures."

He added that he would immediately consult with the Minister of Interior about the injured in the protest.

"The protest is currently peaceful and I respect this form of protest," Kiril Petkov said.

Ministry of Interior said that four police officers were injured when protesters tried to enter the National Assembly

The Prime Minister wants to know from the experts nominated by the protest whether they have better ideas for better nati-epidemic measures, and he said the dialogue is not open to protest, but to expert ideas.

"My message is that we are on the eve of another big Covid-19 wave. I understand that all people are frustrated that we have to deal with something so unpleasant at such a high price. I assure you that even though we are in quarantine, we are working from morning till night to come up with a better option for managing this next wave," Petkov said.

He reiterated his call for people to be vaccinated so that we can reduce the number of intensive care cases and ensure that the economy and schools continue to operate.
