Аt a ceremony in the Presidency on September 29, the head of state Rumen Radev awarded the Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria, Michael Forbes, with the Madara Horseman Order First Degree.
The President highlighted Ambassador Forbes' personal contribution to the dynamic development of relations between Bulgaria and Ireland.
In 2020, Bulgaria and Ireland mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. "Although short as a history, these relations mark a dynamic and upward development," Rumen Radev stressed. According to him, during his term in Bulgaria Michael Forbes has established excellent and fruitful relations with Bulgarian institutions and has significantly contributed to the preparation of Bulgaria for membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The head of state also stressed Ambassador Forbes' contribution to the development of cultural ties between the two countries. The large number of literary, musical events and exhibitions have provided an opportunity for the Bulgarian public to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of Ireland.
"I sincerely hope that your stay in Bulgaria has been fruitful, that you have better understood the ancient history of our proud people and that you have had pleasant moments of friendship that you will remember for a long and professional satisfaction," the President said.
Michael Forbes defined as special the Order of the Madara Horseman - first degree. "This order marks the achievements of the past four years and I am proud of it. I am proud that we have developed relations between Bulgaria and Ireland, " said the diplomat. "I know that the Madara Horseman will take me back to Bulgaria to see your incredible valleys of roses again," said Michael Forbes.
