President Radev: The announcement of the official election results raises questions about the fairness of the vote

The announcement of the official results of the elections instead of calming down the society causes tension and raises questions about the fairness of the vote, President Rumen Radev said on October 31 in a statement commenting the early parliamentary elections, held on October 27.

"How is it possible that the multiplying reports and examples of vote buying and manipulation are visible to everyone but remain outside the attention of the responsible institutions?

Are state bodies being used as a cudgel against mayors and businesses to rig votes? Has the criminal contingent been harnessed to get votes?

Who are the political forces and who are the political leaders using such ugly practices?" Radev asked.

"I expect convincing answers from the caretaker government and, in particular, from the Interior Ministry and the security services," Rumen Radev stressed.

According to him, "Bulgarian citizens have the full right to know in whose interests their institutions are working and whether someone is infiltrating the National Assembly through vote-buying, threats and racketeering."

"There can be neither bought nor forced democracy. Accepting this as normal means that we have given up the very idea of people's rule," the head of state further stated.
