Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev arrived on a two-day official visit to Serbia on 21st of June at the invitation of his Serbian counterpart, President Aleksandar Vucic.

Building a new border check point between Bulgaria and Serbia will be proposed to the governments of the two countries by the Presidents.

Vucic and Radev agree that work should be done for the faster construction of the interconnector gas pipeline; Nis - Sofia motorway and the electrification of the railway line between the two countries.

“The European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans passes through reconciliation with the past, putting the language of hatred behind us, establishment of good neighbourly relations and respecting minority rights,” President Rumen Radev noted.

"We can say today that Bulgarian-Serbian relations are at a level and scope, at which positive processes dominate, and we are determined to work together to make this an irreversible perspective in our relations," he added. "The historical reconciliation on which united Europe was founded must find its place in the Balkans, too," the Bulgarian head of State remarked.

Presidents Vucic and Radev agreed that by tonight the two delegations would offer specific measures to improve health and education for the Bulgarian minority in the Southywestern Serbia, as well as to open media in the native language.

Radev, together with President Vucic, will meet the Bulgarian minority in Southeastern Serbia on Friday. "This is the first such joint meeting, and it is indeed a landmark event," Radev said.

"We expect that this national minority of ours will feel stronger support from the Serbian State, will feel sooner in its everyday life the positive changes in Serbian legislation concerning national minorities," the head of State added.

“We have no objection to Serbian citizens of Bulgarian nationality being treated in medical institutions in another country if they think there is better medical care. We will make a joint team to monitor the movement of medical teams from the two countries to avoid problematic situations, “the Serbian President said.

President Radev also met with Serbia's Prime Minister Anna Burnabich and with the Chair of Serbian Prliament, Maja Gojkovic.
