The price of natural gas is increasing. The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission approved the proposal of public gas supplier Bulgargaz for a 3.5% rise in the price of the blue fuel.
Thus, the price will become nearly 114 BGN per megawatt-hour. The change is retroactive to 1 March.
The Commission said that the increase is due to the limited production from the gas storage in Chiren and the record high prices on the European gas exchanges.
By order of Energy Minister, Alexander Nikolov, gas is being injected into Chiren storage facility to ensure sufficient reserves in case of a supply crisis. The trend of rising prices of the natural gas in the country has been observed since last summer. The biggest decrease in the price, by more than 17%, was in February this year.
