The proposal by the government coalition that the first day of worker’s sick leave be left unpaid by employers will not be submitted to Parliament, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on November 19.
The proposal came last week as a measure to fight against false sick leaves, but was met with much resistance from the Trade Unions and other organizations.
The idea to leave the first day of a worker's sick leave unpaid by the employer caused arguments between the business and the trade unions.
The Prime Minister said that the topic would be discussed in the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation.
The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB) and the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour said that despite the PM’s decision they would hold protests at the end of the month. The business threatened to leave the Council for Tripartite Cooperation.
