Prosecutor Nikolov from Rousse resigns after alleged lobbying disclosures

Prosecutor Nikolai Nikolov from the city of Rousse has resigned, BNT sources said on June 23.

Recently some disclosures were made about Nikolov that he sought assistance from businessman Plamen Bobokov, who was recently charged in relation to illegal importing and processing of waste. In the disclosed exchange of messages, the prosecutor from Rousse asks Bobokov to lobby for him to be elected as administrative head of the district prosecutor’s office in Rousse.

Earlier, the chief prosecutor assigned a check into the overall activities of prosecutor Nikolai Nikolov. The check will look into all cases Nikolov worked on, participation in court sittings, possible violations of powers. His alleged relation with accused businessman Plamen Bobokov will also be checked, as well as legal entities represented and managed by him.
