Speaking at a briefing on 16th of March, the spokesperson of the Chief Prosecutor Rumyana Arnaudova said that the prosecutor’s office starts investigations over mismanagement in 7 hospitals, following checks on their financial position. She summarised the results of the checks in the hospitals. The final report will be released by the Ministry of Health by the end of the month.
Sofia City Prosecutor's Office initiated pre-trial proceedings for mismanagement in Pirogov Hospital.
Six other pre-trial proccedings were initiated for the hospitals in the town of Popovo, in Bourgas, the in Blagoevgrad, the Hospital for Rheumatology in Rousse, the Hospital in Veliko Tarnovo and the Hospital for Cardiology in Kardzhali. In some cases, the investigation is for criminal activities since 2010. The Chief Prosecutor has ordered all investigations to be transferred to Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
The checks were initiated in 2017. The Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov and Health Minister Kiril Ananiev announced that they will check all state hospitals and those with over 50% state stake.
About 24 hospitals from 14 districts have been inspected, over 300 contracts have been reviewed.
