Representatives of GERB Took Part in National Prayer Breakfast with Donald Trump

For the fifth consecutive year, the chairperson of GERB Parliamentary Group and deputy chair of the party Tsvetan Tsvetanov and GERB MP Plamen Nunev took part in the National Prayer Breakfast with US President Donald Trump, the press office of GERB announced on 9^th of February. For the first time, the forum, held on 8^th of February, was attended by the deputy chair of GERB and Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova; the deputy chair of GERB and mayor of Bourgas Dimitar Nikolov and the mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev.

The National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly event held in Washington, D.C. bringing together world political and religious leaders and always includes the American Head of State. The tradition began with President Eisenhower in 1953 and for 66 years this meeting has been recognized as one of the most important political events in Washington.

This year’s Breakfast was attended by a number of senators and congressmen from the US Congress - Senator Christopher Coons of Delaware, Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma, Congressional Charles Chris, Randy Holtgren and Stephen Scullis.

US President Donald Trump addressed the people with deeply religious words about human self-denial, sacrifice and compassion, giving a number of examples of everyday life in which these states of the human spirit were triumphant. President Trump also offered encouragement to those who suffer under the anti-democratic regimes of Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela.

During breakfast, the chair of GERB PG Tsvetan Tsvetanov spoke with Montenegrin Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajovic, assuring him once again of Bulgaria's support for Montenegro on its European path. A meeting with Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic was also held, during which similar issues were discussed.

Later in the day, a bilateral meeting took place between the Bulgarian and Macedonian participants in the Prayer Breakfast. Both groups united around the view that good neighbourly relations are of mutual interest.
