The residents of the village of Debelt in Bulgaria’s coastal region of Bourgas on 22nd of March spent another sleepless night in anticipation of flooding. The heavy rainfall in the recent days has led to increase of Sredetska River level. The District Government assures that there is no danger of flooding at this stage.
The houses located at the bottom of the village of Debelt, along the drainage channel, are most at risk. Due to the high level of the Sredetzka River and the incoming rainwater, the yards of these houses are often flooded.
According to the people of Debelt, the clogged drainage channels and the broken levee are the cause of frequent floods. After a survey of the area, the governor assured the village residents there was no risk.
Snow and rain are forecast for the next two days and therefore the employees of Irrigation Systems and Civil Protection will monitor the levels of dams and rivers in the region of Bourgas.
