Road Infrastructure Agency Alerts for Snow and Black Ice

Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency issued a warning for snow and black ice on 2^nd of March and advises motorists to drive safely and with caution.

A day before the bank holiday weekend, motorways and busiest roads will be closed for traffic for lorries weighing over 12 tonnes from 16:00 to 20:00.

Shipka pass will be closed as of 20:00 this evening because of the celebrations for the national liberation that will take place in the area on3rd of March.

It is raining in the regions of Blagoevgrad and Sofia. Due to the winter conditions, continuing rainfalls and low temperatures, roads in Sofia were treated with anti-icing mixtures during the night. The snow ploughing machines worked in all 24 areas of Sofia Municipality, as a priority on the routes of public transport, dangerous and steep sections, the southern arc of the Ring Road, municipal roads, and partly in main and smaller streets in the residential suburbs. 140 snow ploughs are ready to tackle winter weather.

IT is snowing in the high mountainous passes. Road pavements are snow-covered, icy and processed. Visibility in the region of Knezha is reduced because of fog.
