Severe accident before the roundabout in the town of Aytos (South-eastern Bulgaria) took place on September 11. A lorry hit several cars, after which it stopped at a roadside fence, the District Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in the city announced.
The accident happened at about 12.40 pm on Hadzhi Dimitar Street. A lorry with Bourgas registration, driven by a 51-year-old man from Nessebar, travelling from Ruen in the direction of the roundabout, took the right of way of a person crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. The lorry then crashed into 11 vehicles on the street - cars and a minibus.
According to information of the police, the driver was under the influence of drugs and was driving too fast.
In the accident, a Toyota four-wheel drive with Targovishte registration caught fire. A 28-year-old woman from Targovishte, travelling in the back seat, died on the spot.
Six people were injured in the severe accident, said the press office of the hospital in Bourgas, where they were taken. Three of the patients were slightly injured, the others have moderately severe injuries.
The crash site is closed to traffic.
There are teams of the Traffic Police and employees of "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" unit. An inspection of the scene will be conducted, BGNES reports.
Road traffic to and from Rouen is diverted via a bypass route. The causes for the accident are being clarified. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
