There were some large falls of snow in western Bulgaria on 26th of February. Almost everywhere in the country the temperatures have dropped below -5 degrees.
Accumulating snow will impact the winter situation across the country. Snowing is forecast to continue throughout the day, especially in the Rhodope Mountains, where the snow cover is expected to exceed 30 cm, Anastasia Stoycheva from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences told BNT.
Snowfalls are expected to stop later tonight, but will continue again on 27th of February mainly in northern Bulgaria.
The strong wind will diminish but will not stop. Temperatures will continue to drop until March 1, when some regions will see temperatures as low as -15 degrees and -10 degrees.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the maximum temperatures will be below zero and in some regions below -5. An ice warning is in place for some parts in Bulgaria.
