The 27th of September sitting of Bulgaria’s Parliament failed for lack of quorum after opposition MPs did not register in the hall. At the same time, the leaders of the parliamentary groups of GERB and MRF held a meeting on the sidelines.
Three successive attempts were made to secure a quorum for the sitting, and the three attempts failed. At the last attempt there were only 106 MPs - far below the 121 needed for holding the plenary sititng.
Members of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party BSP and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) who were present in the plenary hall did not register. MPs from the ruling coalition were absent for various reasons, some of them because of business trips. BSP and MRF have explained that securing quorum is a matter for the government.
MPs who were not in the plenary today without valid reasons, as well as those who did not register even though they were present, would be sanctioned and will not be paid two-thirds of their daily wage.
