In the third month of 2018, Sofia Airport served a total of 556,088 passengers achieving an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period in 2017. Terminal 2 was used by 67% of all passengers, and Terminal 1 – by the remaining 37%.
Passenger traffic on international scheduled flights increased by 5.2%, which is due to the recently launched flight destinations and the increased flight frequencies on a number of routes since the beginning of the summer schedule.
New flights were launched to Ljubljana, Nice and Paphos in the last week of March and the frequency of flights to Athens, Doha, Lisbon, Malaga and Frankfurt wаs increased.
There has been an increase of the passengers on domestic flights since the second carrier on the route Sofia – Varna became operational from the end of March 2017. In the past month, paasengers increased by 62%: 24,000 in March 2018, compared to nearly 15,000 for the same period of 2017.
The number of international charter flights increased by 47%. Last month, the most attractive were trips to Cairo and Hurghada in Egypt, as well as to Tel Aviv in Israel.
Aircraft movements
The departing and landing aircrafts at Sofia Airport reachedy 4,781 in the first month of the year, which is an increase by 2.5% compared to the same period in 2017.
Cargo
1,850 tonnes of cargo and mail shipments were processed in March 2018, which is an increase by 8.5%.
