Sofia Municipality received BGN 151 million under the Operational Programme "Regional Development" at the government meeting on 21st of February. The funds are for four projects for renovation and refurbishment of the central part of Sofia city.
46 million will be allocated for repairs of Graf Ignatiev Street, Slaveykov Square, the area around the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the National Assembly. 125 million will be used to complete the integrated urban transport project, which includes the repair of 25 km of tram rails, the purchase of 13 new trams, and an intelligent traffic management system.
All these measures are aimed at reducing air and noise pollution in Sofia, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov announced after Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Deputy Minister of Regional Development Denitsa Nikolova signed the agreements for the funding.
