State of emergency was declared on 8th of March in the villages of Barzina, Botevo and Rogozen in the region of Vratsa, North-West Bulgaria, due to overflowing of Rogozen Dam.
Some residents from the three villages were evacuated. The spillway of the dam is damaged and the water drains through the dam wall.
The necessary measures have been taken to strengthen the spillway. The dam is the last of a cascade with 15 water reservoirs. Firefighting teams have worked on the dam all night. Three pumps pump water out of the dam, more pumps are expected to be brought from Pleven. Lorries pour broken stones into the spilllway.
