By a decree signed on August 4 by Bulgaria’s President Roumen Radev, the amendments to the Judicial System Act were promulgated in the State Gazette on 11th of August.
According to the amendments, magistrates will be removed from office in all cases of accusations of intentional crime of a general nature, thus replacing the old texts which provided for removal from the post only in the event of allegations of crimes related to the administration of justice.
Until now, magistrates were not allowed to do business. The changes in the law do not allow them to be traders except in person and through other persons.
The changes also provide for that after the end of their term in office, members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will return to the previous position they occupied or to a position of equal degree to the previous one.
