The leader of "There is Such a People", Slavi Trifonov, announced on his Facebook page on July 15 that he was withdrawing Nikolai Vassilev's nomination for Prime Minister. The party will propose another candidate for prime minister, as well as a revised line up of the Council of Ministers.
Trifonov claims that "huge slop" was poured on Vassilev in just three days after he was proposed for PM. He clarified that it is not important for him "what lies some of the parties have told, but it is much more important to "scratch off” the GERB model from the public and political life of the country.
Here is what Slavi Trifonov wrote:
"On the day after the election, I proposed a draft cabinet composed only of highly educated professionals and with clear priorities. I nominated economist Nikolai Vassilev for the post of the Prime Minister, as he is a man with experience in politics, public administration and real business. It turned out that it didn't matter how educated the nominated ministers were, how good experts they were, how clear the priorities were. It turned out that this was not important for those media and politicians who picked off Nikolai Vassilev as a connection of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - a statement that has nothing to do with the truth.
However, I understand that the country does not need instability and new elections. It is not so important to me what lies were told by some of the parties that are not from the establishment. For me, it is much more important to "scratch off” the GERB model from the public and political life of the country.
Because this is the main enemy of statehood and democracy. I understand it, unlike some others. That is why I decided to withdraw the nomination of a worthy man like Nikolai Vassilev, because no one is more important than the problems before us as a society. We, as the party that won the recent general elections, will soon propose a new Prime Minister with a revised line up of the Council of Ministers.
And because I believe that everything should happen in front of your eyes, tomorrow in BTA, at exactly 1 pm, part of the political leadership of "There is Such a People", together with Mr. Nikolai Vassilev, will give a press conference at which they will answer all the questions from all journalists.
The power is in the truth," Trifonov said.
