A protest demanding the resignation of the caretaker Minister of Tourism Stella Baltova was staged by tour operators and representatives of the tourism industry on June 29. They are dissatisfied with the fact that the 16 million BGN set aside to cover the losses from the pandemic have not yet been paid to the companies.
"We want a future for tourism" and "Tour operators together for their customers" - these slogans were raised by the tour operators. They want a meeting with President Rumen Radev or caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev.
The place was chosen because, according to them, the caretaker government said it would work transparently and in accordance with the law, but they are disappointed with it.
Another disappointment comes from the meeting this morning with the cafretaker Minister of Tourism Stella Baltova, who again did not want to revise the decree adopted by the Council of Ministers and their wish was not satisfied.
What is it about?
Initially, the BGN 16 million grants were to be distributed only under Article 26 of the State of Emergency Act. The only condition was to owe money to their customers for 2020.
After the adoption of the decree, there are several more conditions, which according to the tour operators are unfeasible. Namely - the money owed to the tour operators to be tied to the money of the suppliers - carriers, hotels and insurance. The second condition is that on April 5 the money for the compensations should have been accounted for and the third condition - on April 5 the companies were not liquid.
According to the tour operators, under these conditions, none of them will be able to take this money.
The Ministry of Tourism issued an official letter stating that they had never refused to talk to the Future of Tourism Association. Meetings and talks were held on the subject, so that the protesters' statement about the lack of audibility and dialogue remains completely inexplicable.
