Trakia Motorway and Sofia Underground - Good Examples of EU Funded Projects

With 475 votes in favour (73% of the votes), the European Parliament (EP) referred to Bulgarian projects as good examples for European funds management. This happened during the plenary session of the EP. The projects are Trakia Motorway, the underground in Sofia and the renewed sections of Sofia-Plovdiv railway line, the press office of GERB (majority partner in the coalition government) announced on 3^rd of May.

The projects are included in a report evaluating European investments in transport, with recommendations for financing the sector after 2020. The author of the report is MEP Andrey Novakov (GERB / EPP).

“When thanks to Europe citizens free up two hours a day, when because of Europe we have 500 victims less on the road, when Europe connects families, villages and cities with their European projects, then people understand what the Union means for them," Novakov noted after the vote .

The report calls for more grant funding in regions where the quality of infrastructure requires it and where transport pollutes more or there is a large number of road accidents. With the approval of the report, an emphasis is also placed on depopulating regions, for which good connectivity remains one of the possibilities for solving the problem.

After adoption in plenary hall, the document will be sent to the European Commission, the European Council, governments, national and regional governing authorities of the Member States.
