Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba formally appealed to the Bulgarian authorities to provide arms assistance and said he was expecting a clear answer today, April 21. He attended the opening of the photo exhibition "Stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine" arranged in the European corner of the Bulgarian Parliament.

Kuleba commented on yesterday's "We Continue the Change" proposal to provide "technical assistance for protection":

"It is important in wartime to have body armour and a helmet. But, let's be serious, if you have body armour and a helmet and you don't have a weapon, you are lost. So this half-measure is politically correct, but the message is: You can die protected," he said.

Dmytro Kuleba added that he had come to Bulgaria to get a clear answer to the demands he had put forward and that since the Easter holidays start tomorrow, he expected to get an answer today.

"In this country, it is right that I get a response from the entire government. I understand that the Bulgarian government is having difficulty giving us a clear answer as to what assistance it can give us, but every day that we are denied military assistance, more Ukrainian citizens and military personnel die. I therefore call on politicians to think about this. There are people on the ground who are dying while discussions are going on and arguments are being sought against providing such assistance," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.

Kuleba added that in the recent days in Sofia he had heard two arguments against providing military aid to Ukraine. The first is that by providing arms, Bulgaria will prevent peace and contribute to the war. This, according to Kuleba, is not true because by depriving Ukraine of defence aid, more people will die under Russian aggression. The second argument is that Russians and Ukrainians are brothers of Bulgarians and therefore Bulgaria does not want to interfere in the war between them.

"But how can you consider a brother someone who kills in this way? How can you consider a brother someone who does this on the eve of holy holidays? So, dear Bulgarians, life is hard, times are hard, but you cannot always be in the middle. The time has come when you have to make a decision," Kuleba said.
