Valentina Madjarova is the new head of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office. In the Supreme Judicial Council`s Prosecutorial College vote, the only candidate for the post received 7 votes in favour and none against or abstentions.

During her hearing, Madjarova also commented on the question of whether she would resign if it was established that at the request of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office, special intelligence-gathering devices had been applied to opposition politicians and protesting citizens during last summer's protests.

The new head of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office reminded that the wiretapping scandal is being investigated by SANS and the special intelligence-gathering devices Control Bureau.

I do not think that any prosecutor from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office has violated the law. The question was if it was proven that politicians and protesters were wiretapped. Yes, I will resign, Madjarova said.

During the election of the head of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office, there was a protest by the BOEC Civil Association in front of the SJC building. Hence, they believe that the procedure is marked by a lack of competition and a critical attitude towards the activities of specialised prosecutor’s office and courts.

Madjarova called on BOEC to be present in the courtrooms, emphasizing that theses and counter-theses can be heard there, the evidence is commented on and the inner conviction is formed.
